It only takes one person to make a difference in someoneâs life.
September is suicide awareness month, so we would like to share some statistics with you about this very real concern in today's society. Did you know that 1 in 5 Indiana high school students seriously considered attempting suicide in the past year? Indiana ranks 3rd out of 36 states in the percentage of high school students who seriously considered attempting suicide. This is not just a high school and older issue, many younger students struggle with suicidal thoughts as well.
Mrs. Wright is always available in the counseling office if a student needs to talk, or if they have a friend that they are concerned about. Please say something if you have concerns, you can be the one to make a difference in someoneâs life.
If students prefer to talk to someone anonymously they can check out the Suicide Prevention Lifeline or the Crisis Text Line both of which are available 24/7.

Randolph Central School Corporation and the WCHS/DMS athletic departments are excited for the opportunity to resume Indiana High School Athletic Association sanctioned athletics starting July 6th.
WCHS will begin July 6th and DMS will begin when we resume school.
Every WCHS and DMS student athlete will have to complete an IHSAA Health History Questionnaire and consent and Release Certificate prior to beginning their WCHS summer or DMS fall activities.
Last year's 2019-2020 physicals are good for this upcoming 20-21 calendar school year as long as you do not answer yes to any of the questions on the IHSAA health history questionnaire If you answer "yes" you will need a new physical prior to activity.
All required athletic paperwork
AND
the WCHS July Athletic Schedule can be found on the various WCHS and DMS social media outlets.
Hard copies can be picked up at DMS door #1 during the Randolph Central summer lunch hours of 11am- 1pm Monday through Friday.
The WCHS Athletic Department is excited to get back to what we will have to call "Our New Normal" for high school athletics. This will be very challenging and ever changing. In order to play games in August it will be crucial that we follow the guidelines that have been set forth starting in July.

All Driver Middle School girls and their parents who are interested in VOLLEYBALL, please join us for a zoom meeting next Thursday, June 25, at 7pm (link below) to meet the coaches and discuss plans for future virtual open gyms. This is open to girls entering 6th through 8th grade for the 2020-2021 school year. Although we do not have a 6th grade volleyball team, all 6th graders are welcome to any preseason activities to start practicing your skills!
We also recommend that you follow the WCHS Lady Falcon Volleyball page on Facebook and/or instagram to stay up to date on all things volleyball!
Please share this post with students/families that you think might be interested in participating or learning more. You can contact Mrs. Wright at swright@randolphcentral.us, or Coach Elizabeth Helms at elizabeth@helmsplace.com, if you have any questions at this time.

Today is our last day of elearning! Students should please revisit the email Mrs. Lash sent out last week with information on locker clean out and fundraiser pick up for today. Here is a link with the information on chromebook return which starts tomorrow: https://5il.co/g1r3
Normally on our last day of school, we celebrate the 8th grade class with a program in the gym first thing in the morning. This year we are going to do so virtually! Please enjoy the end of the year slideshow featuring all of the Driver students. We could not have predicted how this school year would end, but we have a lot of positive memories to look back on!
At the conclusion of the slideshow the students who achieved the PRIDE award this year are featured. We are sorry we didn't get to celebrate quite as planned, but hopefully we can make next year even better!

As we near the end of the school year our School Counselor, Mrs. Wright, wants to give one final reminder that 8th grade students must apply for 21st Century Scholars by June 30. This is an awesome scholarship program for continuing education after high school, and all that is required now is for the brief application to be filed.
Parents/guardians, please take a few minutes today to complete the online application process at https://learnmoreindiana.org/scholars/enroll
If you are not sure if your student has already completed this, please have your child check their school email. Students who have not applied received an email yesterday reminding them to apply before the deadline. If your student did not get the email, there is nothing else for you to do at this time.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to Mrs. Wright if you have any questions. Her email is swright@randolphcentral.us.

CLICK ON THE LINK BELOW FOR INFORMATION ON HOW AND WHEN TO TURN IN YOUR CHROMEBOOK.

Here is an update on many important questions as we near the end of the year.
Yesterday, students were sent a Google Form from Mrs. Wright to select a related arts choice for next year. It is so important that students answer that email promptly so that we may organize a schedule for them.
We have had many questions about fundraiser pickup. Thank you for your patience as we waited to follow the rules from the Governor. Fundraiser pickup will be on May 18th from 1-3 PM. Please arrive to door 25 that we use for the athletic entrance. It is by the stairs on the south side of the building. If that time does not work for you, please let us know and we will make arrangements to get your products to you on May 19th. We have a short window as many of the items must be refrigerated and the delivery company must bring them in the afternoon on the 18th.
Locker and classroom item pickup at the middle school will also be on May 18th from 10-3 PM. Items have already been bagged and students can pick up these bags at door 25 as well. Please have only one person approach the door and practice social distancing. Students should NOT plan to enter the building. We have attempted to think through items around the building including band and PE lockers and more. If there is something specific you need that may not have been in a locker, give us a call and we will obtain the items for you. If you have items like library or textbooks that belong to the school, please bring them with you at this time. If this time does not work, we can make arrangements for you to get items on May 19th as well from 10 AM to 2 PM at door 25.
You should plan to keep your eyes out for more information coming soon about Chromebook drop off. These procedures will be different than what is posed above.

Midterms are being mailed today. We know that many students may be catching up on assignments but this midterm is only an update on progress to keep you informed. Report cards will not come out until May. If you are having any trouble with assignments, please email those teachers directly and they are happy to help! This attachment that explains grading procedures and more is included in the mail: https://5il.co/f5zi

Please take a few minutes to read through these awesome tips our friends from Meridian Health Services shared with us!
We know that staying at home for this extended amount of time is not easy for everyone, so we want to remind you that we are here to support you and your students in any way we can. Please don't be afraid to reach out!

Driver families: This is a friendly check in to keep you informed. As you know, we will be continuing eLearning on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday for the rest of the school year. Help us keep students on track by engaging with the school regularly. Midterms will be mailed on Thursday, but know that we want to work with you to keep you updated on your students progress. If you have questions about certain grades, be sure to contact your teachers. Remember that we serve lunch for kids each day from 11-1. We have also had many questions about the fundraiser pick up. We have no updates on this until the governors restrictions are adjusted. Thank you for being patient with us as we navigate this and we are missing your students every day. Families, please know that we are here for all of you. We recognize the efforts you are putting in at home. Thank you.

A note from Mrs. Wright, DMS School Counselor:
I have been trying to share some self-care resources with students via email and Instagram since I know that this is a stressful time for many. I came across this article today and thought that this was a good one for parents to read through. It talks about supporting your studentâs mental health during the pandemic, and in turn about how you can help your own mental health as an adult during this time.
Please encourage your students to reach out to me if they are struggling, I am here to help in any way I can! I am also here to support parents, so if you are feeling overwhelmed (or need some guidance on eLearning) please reach out to me.
https://www.weareteachers.com/kids-mental-health-covid-19/

The Governor issued an Executive Order today closing all K-12 schools and requiring each school to continue an extended learning plan that includes 160 student days. Randolph Central will continue eLearning Days on Mon., Tues., & Thurs. of each week. More info coming soon.

A few updates from Mrs. Wright, DMS School Counselor
1. The 8th grade Reality Store has been cancelled for this year. I am hoping we will be able to coordinate this experience for the class of 2024 next school year.
2. I have sent an email to the 8th graders who have not applied for 21st Century Scholars yet. The deadline for this scholarship opportunity is the end of the school year and it is something you will not want to miss out on. Parents - if you could have your students show you the email they received, you will get more details on what the program is about and what you need to do to apply. If your student received the email but you believe you are not eligible, please have them respond and let me know that. You can also get more info at this link: https://learnmoreindiana.org/scholars/enroll/
3. All students received an email from me about the community service form for their PRIDE certificate. This form is due by the end of the school year and I have not received very many at this time. All DMS students can complete this form (which is attached to the email they received) and return it to me via email or send it to the school in the regular mail.
4. I am sharing a list of apps (pictured) because they are good resources for students to use at home if they are feeling stressed or need to relax. They work for adults too! If your student is having any issues you would like them to talk to someone about, please have them contact me at swright@randolphcentral.us or give me a call at 765-584-4671, extension 1020.
5. If you are not currently following the Driver Instagram page I would like to encourage you to do so. I will be posting more tips and resources there throughout this month.
Thank you for your time, and I hope you are all staying home and staying safe!

Hello from a few familiar faces! Enjoy!

This week was kindness week at DMS, and the YANA Club worked hard to spread as much kindness as possible!
YANA stands for You Are Not Alone, and one of the club goals was to let everyone know they are cared for. To do this club members put a kind note into everyone students locker, and they also created this kindness bulletin board in the Driver wing. If anyone is having a bad day, they can take a âhappy thoughtâ from the board with them and hold on to it.
Throughout the week there were âkindness challengesâ available in the office and everyone was encouraged to participate by seeing how many kind acts they could complete by Friday. Several students completed all 50 tasks! We loved seeing all the little acts of kindness this week, and we hope we can continue the trend in the future.

The 8th grade DC travelers returned from their journey early Sunday morning after spending three full days in Washington touring. Here are just a few photos of the many things the group got to do!
We want to thank all the parents and chaperones that made this trip possible - it was a great learning experience for all and we were thankful for decent weather throughout.
If you would like to see a few more photos from the trip please check out our school Instagram page @driverhawks

We also had âPennant Hide & Seekâ on Wednesday and Thursday, and our top âseekersâ won prizes. Payton Clott found the most with an amazing total of 17 pennants!
Each day there was a college related trivia question students could answer at lunch (with more prizes) and there is also an Indiana college door decorating contest which is ongoing. We canât wait to show you the final results!

Students received this message today:
This is a reminder that Monday, September 23rd is an eLearning day for students. To count as "present" you must turn in work to your teachers as they have instructed. The rules state that you have 3 days to make up work from an eLearning day so for this first day all assignments absolutely must be turned in by the end of the day on Thursday the 26th.
If you do not have internet access at home, you may come to the building and report to the choir room between 9 AM and 3 PM. You must have a parent with you.
For more details about eLearning at DMS visit: http://randolphin.apptegy.us/o/driver-middle-school/browse/81676

Due to the widespread technology outage today, midterms will be sent home on Thursday of this week instead of tomorrow.

Phones and internet are currently down at DMS.

Midterms will be sent home with students on Wednesday, September 11. Watch for the grades and newsletter to come home that evening.

Just a reminder that there is NO SCHOOL on Monday for Labor Day. Enjoy the long weekend and see you on Tuesday!

We have had a few questions about the call this morning.
Randolph Central has a new All-Call provider. The same company manages our websites, apps, & all-call system. The voice messages we send to everyone from the system that come to your cellphone will say they are coming from Little Rock, Arkansas. Useful information!

Randolph Central will be on a two hour delay today, August 14, due to fog.

To kick off our new corporation PRIDE initiative, we have a first day filled with special activities. Students may choose to bring only part of their supplies on the first day as they only will need a pencil. Students should know they will follow a special schedule for this first day that we will explain when they arrive.

A reminder from your registration packet that our Open House for 6th graders and new students is tomorrow from 5:30-6:30. We will begin the meetings in the Commons.

We are looking forward to seeing students soon! Remember that start times have changed at the MS/HS. Doors open at 8:00 AM. Students will be dismissed to classes at 8:15 and first period starts at 8:22.

Randolph Central Families,
Your 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students participated in the ILEARN assessments earlier this spring. Since ILEARN is a new test, the final results with proficiency levels and scale scores will not be available for schools until August 15. In accordance with Indiana Code 20-32-5.1-12(d), parents and schools have an opportunity to request a rescore for any open-ended item(s) to which students responded on the ILEARN assessment.
Important Information about the ILEARN Rescore Request Process:
⢠The ILEARN Rescore Request window will be open in mid-July (July 15â31). Requests submitted outside of this window will not be processed.
⢠Parents or guardians who wish to view studentsâ response images and scoring rubrics must visit the school in which their child is officially enrolled. There will not be a separate online portal for parents to access this information.
⢠Together, we will be able to view an image of your studentâs response to each open-ended item, sample student responses for each score point, and the scoring rubric to help decide whether to request a rescore for that item.
⢠I will submit any rescore request(s) on your behalf in the online platform.
⢠It is extremely important to understand that requesting a rescore CAN result in your childâs score being lowered, meaning we could unintentionally move your child from a passing score to a failing score through this process.
⢠Once a rescore request is submitted, the request and/or score change cannot be reversed.
⢠A rescore request can only be requested one time for an item. Multiple requests to rescore the same item for a student are not permissible.
⢠All items, responses, and scoring rubrics are secure materials and must not be discussed, shared, distributed, or duplicated.
⢠Final results released on August 15 will reflect any properly submitted requested rescores.
Parents or guardians who choose to request a rescore for their childâs ILEARN assessment, must contact our school office to do so no later than July 31, 2019. We will be able to help you view your childâs response images and scoring rubrics and request a rescore for each item. Youâre also welcome to contact me or Mrs. Jaelyn Winkle with any questions you have regarding requesting a rescore for an ILEARN assessment.
Sincerely,
Katie Lash, Principal

On Friday we have planned fun events for all students. Permission slips for 6th grade for skating and 7th grade for a movie at the cinema have been due.
Beginning at 8:15 AM, all students will attend a short recognition of the 8th graders headed to high school. Parents of 8th graders might choose to attend for this 30-minute event but the afternoon is planned with fun activities for students only until we start summer break at 3:15 on Friday!
