Due to school closures on both November 12th and 19th, our GIRLS BASKETBALL team has missed two of their scheduled games.
Previous communication stated that we would be making these games up @ Deerfield on Monday, Nov. 25th and @ Willard on Tuesday, Nov. 26th. Due to unforeseen circumstances, THE VENUE FOR THESE GAMES WILL BE SWITCHED.
These games will be made up on:
• Blue, Gold @ Willard - Monday, Nov. 25th
• Gold, White @ Deerfield - Tuesday, Nov. 26th
Thank you for understanding!

Randolph Central will be closed on Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2019. Many of our teachers will be attending an event at the state legislature. Due to a shortage of substitute teachers, we have decided to close school next Tuesday. This day is not an eLearning day and will be made up on Monday, January 20, 2020. Thank you!

Congratulations to those students who applied and were chosen to be a part of Willard's Student Council this year. Without a Student Ambassador program this year, the process of choosing this group was extremely difficult and competitive, as we had more than 60 students apply. Student Council members were chosen based upon the quality of their applications, staff recommendation rankings, and PRIDE shown this school year. Thank you to all students who applied! We truly wish we could keep everyone!

Randolph Central School Corporation will be closed today, Tuesday, November 12th. Today will be an eLearning Day for Willard students.

Randolph Central School Corporation will operate on a two hour delay today, Tuesday, November 12th.

Congratulations to those who made the Willard Elementary School Honor Roll for the first grading period! Keep up the great work!

For any 5th grade boy interested in playing AAU basketball there will be a try-out on Monday, October 14th from 4:30- 6:00 pm at Willard Elementary. If you have any questions feel free to contact Dustin Baldwin at Driver Middle School, 584-4671.
Thank you!

Student Council applications are now available in the Willard office. Applications should be completed neatly and returned to the Willard office by Friday, October 11th. Teacher/staff recommendation forms should be given to staff members at any RCSC school. They will be returned directly to Mr. Duncan, not to the student. Approximately 10 students will be chosen per grade level to make up the Student Council. Best of luck!

Next week will be CHAMPION WEEK here at Willard. During this week, Willard 3rd grade students will be collecting money in their piggy banks for their 529 Savings Accounts. If they collect $25, Randolph County Promise will donate $75 to their account! If they collect under $25, Promise will match their collection. We will celebrate CHAMPION WEEK by taking part in the attached dress up days! Additionally, if you are interested in donating to a third grade student, please feel free to call the Willard office and we can help!

Attention 3rd and 4th grade girls! There will be a call out meeting for any third or fourth grade girl interested in playing AAU basketball this year on Monday, September 30th at 6 pm in the WCHS commons.

The WCHS Cheerleaders invite any K-5th grader to learn cheers, chants, jumps, and stunts at their mini clinic on Thurs., Oct. 3rd at the Field House from 4:30-6:00. Registration is at 4:15 and the cost is $10. To get more info, pick up a flyer at Baker, Willard, or Deerfield.

Way to go, Warriors! Of the four classes in the county with more than 70% of students signed up for a Direct Choice 529 Savings Account, Willard had two of them...Mrs. Holt and Mr. Klipstine. It’s not too late for third grade kiddos to sign up. Help us reach our goal of 100% by contacting the Willard office ASAP!

Due to a widespread outage, Willard’s phones and internet are still down. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

The summer of 2019 was a busy one for the custodial and maintenance staff at Willard Elementary School. Walking into the building, it is obvious that much time and care was taken over the summer to give the building a fresh look. This is evident the moment you step foot in the front doors, as you are greeted with a new entry rug emblazoned with the Willard logo. Gone is the old carpet throughout the building, replaced by a new, warm, and modern look. The egg shell white paint color has been replaced with tones of gray, beige, and navy blue. Sleek new bulletin boards have replaced mismatched boards throughout the building. Signage for the new PRIDE initiative can be found throughout the building. In the gymnasium, new wall pads cover the walls at each end, providing both safety and a new look.
We are so grateful to our Superintendent, Mr. Rolland Abraham, and our wonderful School Board for investing in the aesthetics of our building. Also, a BIG THANKS to all of those who worked tirelessly this summer to revamp the building and get it ready for students!

Willard's annual MUM SALE is underway! Please help support our school by purchasing mums from a Willard student or by calling our office at 765-584-9171 ext. 1200. Our hardy mums are always beautiful and come in 9" pots for the low price of $8. A good portion of this money will go right back to Willard! Share and get the word out and order yours today!

Willard students will participate in a PRACTICE eLearning Day on Friday, August 30th. On this day, students should arrive at school as normal. Once at school, the first two hours of the school day will include students completing assignments on their Chromebooks. All correspondence with their teacher during this two hour window will take place via the computer. Additionally, students may wear school-appropriate pajamas to school! Again, students should plan to attend school as normal on our practice eLearning Day this Friday, August 30th.
As a reminder, our first scheduled eLearning Day will be on September 23rd. On this day, students will not attend school and will complete assignments from home on their Chromebooks.
Thanks!

Don't forget! Fall Picture Day is tomorrow, Wednesday, August 28th. Order forms should be returned tomorrow with money, or you may order online using the below link. SMILE!

The Indiana Department of Education has announced income eligibility guidelines, including household size, for the free and reduced-price school meals and milk programs. The National School Lunch, School Breakfast, and Special Milk programs were created to support students unable to pay the full price for meals or milk.
The link below contains income criteria and household size that are used for determining eligibility. The guidelines are effective until June 30, 2020. Children from households that meet federal guidelines are eligible for free or reduced-price meals and milk.
If you feel that your family might qualify and you have not yet filled out appropriate paperwork, please contact our office at 584-8171 ext. 1200.

We have had a few questions about our new automated call system after this morning’s fog delay. Our new system actually links to our website, our new app, and our social media outlets like Facebook to get information to our stakeholders quickly and efficiently. In fact, this message will go out to Facebook, an app notification, and our website with one push of a button. Unfortunately though, calls will show up on your phone as Little Rock, Arkansas. This may take some getting used to in order to recognize the out of state number. Sorry for the inconvenience And for any confusion this may cause, but the system has otherwise been very effective and user friendly. We appreciate your understanding.

Randolph Central Schools will operate on a two hour delay today, Wednesday, August 14th.

The 2019-2020 school year is off to an amazing start! It is going to be a great year.
On Monday, August 12th, 2019, all Willard students will receive their Chromebooks at school. They will begin bringing them home nightly thereafter. Please take a look at the documents contained in this packet that will come home today and the attached form for more information about the Chromebooks, student expectations, and how you can help. Additionally, please review the “Randolph Central School Corporation Network and Internet Acceptable Usage Policy Student Agreement and Student Chromebook Usage Guidelines”. This document was given at registration and contains important information about our Chromebooks.
I am sure that there are many questions about eLearning Days as well. There are two types of eLearning Days: planned and unplanned. Planned eLearning Days will are scheduled for September 23rd, 2019 and February 14th, 2020. On these days, students will remain at home, complete assigned tasks and assignments, and have access to their teacher/s for question via correspondence during scheduled office hours. Unplanned eLearning Days allow for school days to be held in the event of an unplanned school closure due to weather. Both of these types of days are explained in detail in the attached eLearning document. We will conduct a practice eLearning Day here at school on Friday, August 30.
We are excited about the educational opportunities our new Chromebooks will provide our students. Please feel free to call the Willard Elementary School office at 765-584-9171 ext. 1200 if you have any questions.

We are just a few days away from the first day of school on Wednesday, August 7th!
Please join us for our annual Open House on Tuesday, August 6th from 6-7 p.m. On this night, you can meet your child's teacher, check out the classroom, and bring in school supplies.
There will also be a brief parent meeting for all third grade parents in the gymnasium starting at 6:15 p.m. to discuss Willard expectations, procedures, and state testing.

The Force performing at The Drums of Winchester. Go Force!

During the 2019-2020 school year, the Randolph Central School Corporation will be instituting eLearning Days for students on both planned and unplanned closures. eLearning days are counted as actual school days for students and are a paid working day for teachers and principals.
eLearning Days are scheduled for September 23rd and February 14th. On these days, students will remain at home and will complete work on their Chromebooks. Teachers will be available during previously determined times to help students remotely as needed. Willard students will have the chance to practice an eLearning Day at school on Friday, August 30th. On this day, students will come to school and an actual eLearning Day will be simulated within the classroom setting to prepare students for success on these days. Additionally, in the event of school closure due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances, eLearning Days may be used lieu of making up school days.
More information about the specifics of an eLearning Day and what you can expect as a parent can be found in the following eLearning Document:
https://core-docs.s3.amazonaws.com/documents/asset/uploaded_file/416572/eLearning_Days_for_Students_and_Parents.pdf

We are so excited about the learning opportunities that our new Chromebooks will bring to our students. One of the concerns that we have heard from some is how to access curriculum if families do not have wifi at home.
Please be assured that plans will be in place for those without internet access away from school. With that said, we wanted to pass along a low-cost option from Comcast that may help! Comcast offers internet access to those who qualify for free or reduced lunches for just $9.95 per month. Check it out and see if you qualify!

Your 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students participated in the ILEARN assessments earlier this spring. Since ILEARN is a new test, the final results with proficiency levels and scale scores will not be available for schools until August 15. In accordance with Indiana Code 20-32-5.1-12(d), parents and schools have an opportunity to request a rescore for any open-ended item(s) to which students responded on the ILEARN assessment.
Important Information about the ILEARN Rescore Request Process:
• The ILEARN Rescore Request window will be open in mid-July (July 15 – 31). Requests submitted outside of this window will not be processed.
• Parents or guardians who wish to view students’ response images and scoring rubrics must visit the school in which their child is officially enrolled. There will not be a separate online portal for parents to access this information.
• Together, we will be able to view an image of your student’s response to each open-ended item, sample student responses for each score point, and the scoring rubric to help decide whether to request a rescore for that item.
• I will submit any rescore request(s) on your behalf in the online platform.
• It is extremely important to understand that requesting a rescore CAN result in your child’s score being lowered, meaning we could unintentionally move your child from a passing score to a failing score through this process.
• Once a rescore request is submitted, the request and/or score change cannot be reversed.
• A rescore request can only be requested one time for an item. Multiple requests to rescore the same item for a student is not permissible.
• All items, responses, and scoring rubrics are secure materials and must not be discussed, shared, distributed, or duplicated.
• Final results released on August 15 will reflect any properly submitted requested rescores.
Parents or guardians who choose to request a rescore for their child’s ILEARN assessment, must contact our school office to do so no later than July 31, 2019. I will be able to help you view your child’s response images and scoring rubrics and request a rescore for each item. You’re also welcome to contact me with any questions you have regarding requesting a rescore for an ILEARN assessment.
Sincerely,
Jeremy Duncan, Principal

Awards Day will take place this Friday, May 24th at 9:00 a.m. in the Willard gymnasium. On this day, we will honor Willard students for their many accomplishments this year.
We often get questions about the prestigious Presidential Awards that are given out to our fifth grade students. At this point, all families of those receiving the awards this year have been contacted via telephone. Below are the criteria for determining who receives the awards:
GOLD
-90% or better average on 4th grade semester 1 grades and semester 2 grades
-90% or better average on 5th grade semester 1 grades
-Pass + on ISTEP+
SILVER
-85% or better average on the 4th grade semester 1 grades and semester 2 grades
-85% or better average on 5th grade semester 1 grades
-ISTEP+ score of 500 or better
*Grade averages are determined per semester by adding grades for each subject and dividing by the number of grades/subjects.
*A student must meet each requirement to receive the award.

We still need you help! We are about 10 donors short of reaching our goal this year. Would you consider donating blood tomorrow?

Save the date! Willard Elementary School's Awards Day will take place on our last student day, Friday, May 24th beginning at 9:00 a.m.

These awesome quilts, handcrafted by our amazing Art teacher, Mrs. Martin, and our students, are up for auction this week as part of Grandparents Days! Did you know that bidding is open to parents as well? Each classroom piece features artwork from all students in the class. All proceeds from the silent auction go to our art, music, and PE programs. Bidding is open until the close of business Friday.

This week starts our Championship Drive for our 3rd grade students to raise money for their college choice 529 accounts. Third grader students that have already signed up will be bringing home a piggy bank and letter. They can start asking for donations from family and friends. Remember the Community Foundation will match your donations up to $75.00. Piggy banks and money are due back next Monday, April 15th. If you haven’t signed up your child, it is not to late. Just call Willard and we can help!

We’re thrilled to announce Randolph Central
School Corporation’s new app! It’s everything Randolph
Central, in your pocket. Download the app on Android:

Willard family,
At this point, we have 23 of our grade 3 students signed up for a CollegeChoice 529 Direct Savings Plan. First, if you have a third grade student who has not yet signed up, please reach out to Amy Hoggatt at ahoggatt@randolphcentral.us to sign up today. Secondly, we are looking for amazing community members who are willing to be a "champion" for one of our third grade students. This involves making a $25 donation into a child's 529 account. For every $25 donation made from now until April 12th, the Community Foundation of Randolph County will put $75 into the child's account. Thank you in advance for investing in our children!

Reminder: School Success Remediation WILL NOT MEET this week. We will resume on April 1st.
